Burton Vintage 1984 Performer Team Issue Snowboard
The Burton performer team issue snowboard with blue p-tex and color variation, complete with all original parts and wash. This team only board that was used before the transition to the buckle and highback bindings. These bindings still utilize a water ski type binding for the competition team. This is one of the first boards to ever use p-tex. It also has a comber profile and 3 fin system. The performer was considered the most advanced snowboard of its time.
This board is a über rare variation for 3 reasons
#1 The sky blue pantone and black colorway as opposed to the navy blue and black.
#2 This boards silkscreen signature block is different from 99% of the other boards of this era because it says “shaped by Jake Burton Carpenter” without the “and Andy Coghlan” That most boards have. Which means that this board was made before Andy’s influence was involved.
#3 This boards geometry has an extreme camber profile with nearly 3” of camber.
This board is in good condition and has not been cleaned or restored in any way. It is being sold as it was found more than ten years ago. The topsheet graphics are in excellent condition with the exception of a slight rubbing of about 2” of one line just in front of the rear binding deckmat on the right side. There are also two holes from where it was mounted at one time,
The deckmat is in excellent condition, the rubber bindings are soft and pliable with marks from being used in different in the different size options and inside still has a thick layer of dust that will clean up nice. The mounting bars are in excellent condition with some oxidation. Mounting thumb screws are perfect with some oxidation. The blue heel rubber strands are soft and pliable with a dust layer on the underside.
The fins are straight and clean, the fin mounting hardware is all original and in good to excellent condition. The ptex base is in good condition with several light scratches and it shows signs of being tuned up and waxed. The fun mounting bolts have been glued in place with a black glue that is visible around the countersank holes. A rare board in any condition.
Collectors, please note, Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop has a mission statement to document and preserve snowboard history and does not engage in the selling of vintage snowboards from the Utah Snowboard Museum. Most of the boards on this site are privately owned and priced according to rarity and condition. In most cases, they are not intended to sell but to educate fellow collectors of the more rare and hard to find snowboards out there, along with potential value of such boards. Prices are set to discourage purchase, but as time catches up to value, these prices may not seem so far off in the future. If you are interested in selling a board of this caliber, please contact the curator of the Utah Snowboard Museum, Dennis Nazari. If you are in need of period correct bindings, parts, or hardware, also contact the museum for availability; or 801-273-8770
