1990 Burton “Mystery Air” Vintage Snowboard
This board was a demo model issued at the Breckenridge Worlds with yellow highbacks. It was the first sneak peek of what was to become the infamous “Craig Kelly” Rip Pro Model. Craig’s influence in snowboarding and on Burton helped change the direction of snowboarding. At Burton, this board was unofficially his pro model but an on-going litigation with Sims, Craig’s previous sponsor, prevented him from riding a board with graphics.
The rear ankle strap may not be the correct strap, but it does look “prototypish” with a hand sewn strap, similar buckles and much softer than front strap. All buckles function and the bindings could be ridable. Top sheet is in good to excellent condition with a lift line chop to the right side of the tail, almost 3” long. On the right side tip by the “N” there are a couple minor chips, but it does have the factory issued stomp pad.
The base is in good, ridable condition with several scratches and rusty edges. A professional full tune would bring it right back to its glory days. The base also has a small demo stamp in the nose. Overall it is in good condition and would clean up nice!
Collectors, please note, Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop has a mission statement to document and preserve snowboard history and does not engage in the selling of vintage snowboards from the Utah Snowboard Museum. Most of the boards on this site are privately owned and priced according to rarity and condition. In most cases, they are not intended to sell but to educate fellow collectors of the more rare and hard to find snowboards out there, along with potential value of such boards. Prices are set to discourage purchase, but as time catches up to value, these prices may not seem so far off in the future. If you are interested in selling a board of this caliber, please contact the curator of the Utah Snowboard Museum, Dennis Nazari. If you are in need of period correct bindings, parts, or hardware, also contact the museum for availability; or 801-273-8770
Happy hunting and enjoy!
