Sims Vintage Mid 80's Signed 140cm Snowboard
This is a near mint condition mid 80’s Sims snowboard signed by Tom Sims (R.I.P.) As Binding development evolved Sims went to hand bent plastic and straps. This rare 2 piece binding was a transition to full baseplate bindings. This set is a fine example of the era with original Sims Velcro straps, everything on this board is original and authentic.
The stainless steel fins are in mint condition and has all three fins. Fin mounting hardware is original but oxidized. This board may not have ever been ridden. The topsheet of this board is flawless but the original silk screened sims wing logo has a small ¼” nick in it. The raised emblem Sims wing logo on the nose is mint but applied slightly crooked.
This board has Tom Sims original and authentic Signature and hand written serial number #9778 it is also personalized “For Rick” in Toms handwriting. The base is in excellent to mint condition. The ptex on this vase is also extraordinarily rare as they did not make ptex wide enough for snowboarders back then so they had to use two pieces of ptex to cover the base. You can see the seam down the center of the base where the two pieces meet.
This board also comes with the über rare Sims surf leash and original invoice. This all original package is hard to find much less in this condition.
Collectors, please note, Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop has a mission statement to document and preserve snowboard history and does not engage in the selling of vintage snowboards from the Utah Snowboard Museum. Most of the boards on this site are privately owned and priced according to rarity and condition. In most cases, they are not intended to sell but to educate fellow collectors of the more rare and hard to find snowboards out there, along with potential value of such boards. Prices are set to discourage purchase, but as time catches up to value, these prices may not seem so far off in the future. If you are interested in selling a board of this caliber, please contact the curator of the Utah Snowboard Museum, Dennis Nazari. If you are in need of period correct bindings, parts, or hardware, also contact the museum for availability; or 801-273-8770
