Vintage 1983 Kemper Original Wood Snowboard
This is one of five OG wood boards Dave Kemper made as prototypes before launching Kemper Snowboards. With the exception of the nose shape, it’s designed after the Burton Backhill and performer series boards with similar bindings, deckmat, and fin configuration. Outside of being one of fice made this hand painted graphics were meticulously applied in great detail.
Overall this board is in excellent to mint condition. The all wood 5 ply construction is clean and structurally sound. The topsheet has hand painted graphics with four stickers applied. The base would be considered excellent condition with one exception of the “freezine” plug in the way of hand drawn sharpie on the base, which could be cleaned off if necessary.
There is a paintpainted KS for Kemper Snowboards on the nose and an inventory sticker that could be removed. The binding mounts holes in the vase have been ptexed over for a cleaner shelf ready appearance. The fins are a unique design with a 2 step cut. The deckmat is in excellent to mint condition.
Both bindings are complete, original, and in excellent condition. One of the fin mounting nuts is missing the gray cap. The binding mount screws and wing nuts are original equipment, no modifications and no reproductions on this board.
This board has a known and documented history dating back to Dave Kemper’s venture into snowboarding.
Collectors, please note, Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop has a mission statement to document and preserve snowboard history and does not engage in the selling of vintage snowboards from the Utah Snowboard Museum. Most of the boards on this site are privately owned and priced according to rarity and condition. In most cases, they are not intended to sell but to educate fellow collectors of the more rare and hard to find snowboards out there, along with potential value of such boards. Prices are set to discourage purchase, but as time catches up to value, these prices may not seem so far off in the future. If you are interested in selling a board of this caliber, please contact the curator of the Utah Snowboard Museum, Dennis Nazari. If you are in need of period correct bindings, parts, or hardware, also contact the museum for availability; or 801-273-8770
