Burton Vintage 1984 Performer Hand-Signed
This rare board was one of the first snowboards from Burton to have a p-tex base was originally only issued to Burton Team riders that later were offered in limited supply to the public. It is 100% original with no reproduction parts. This board was made before high back bindings were available on snowboards. It was also one of the first boards to have a camber profile and slight sidecut used with a 3 fin system to make one of the most advanced boards of its time. With less than 100 made this is considered to be a rare board.
This board has the navy blue and black colors and in addition to the silkscreened signatures of Jake Burton and Andy Coghland. It also has the actual signatures of Jake and Andy. This board has not been cleaned or restored in any way and is being sold as found. It is in excellent to mint condition. The topsheet graphics are crisp and clean and considered to be in mint condition.
The deckmat is perfect and original. The safety leash is attached but shows signs of oxidation from age. There is also some oxidation on the mounting thumbscrews and mounting bars. The rubber bindings are soft and pliable, however the front binding has a 1” tear where it is been folded in storage for the least 20 years.
(this could be replaced before shipping for an additional $75)
The blue heelstraps are in excellent condition but they show oxidation on the fastex clips. The tailfins are straight and clean with minimal burrs from use. All fin mounting hardware is original and in mint condition. The p-tex base has about 10 scratches but 90% of the base still has the original factory finish. But it does not appear that it has ever received a basegrind or has been waxed. The base overall is in good to excellent condition.
This board is a pivotal piece of snowboard history back when things were evolving from bungee cord bindings and golf cleats for traction. This board will only go up in value over time!
Collectors, please note, Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop has a mission statement to document and preserve snowboard history and does not engage in the selling of vintage snowboards from the Utah Snowboard Museum. Most of the boards on this site are privately owned and priced according to rarity and condition. In most cases, they are not intended to sell but to educate fellow collectors of the more rare and hard to find snowboards out there, along with potential value of such boards. Prices are set to discourage purchase, but as time catches up to value, these prices may not seem so far off in the future. If you are interested in selling a board of this caliber, please contact the curator of the Utah Snowboard Museum, Dennis Nazari. If you are in need of period correct bindings, parts, or hardware, also contact the museum for availability; or 801-273-8770
Happy hunting and enjoy!
