Burton Vintage 1984 Backhill – Blue
This is a very rare painted Backhill prototype made by Burton. In excellent condition complete with original parts and no reproduction parts whatsoever. Spent most of its life in storage this might be one of the best conditions this board can be found in. Only made as “color prototypes” before final production.
Condition of the topsheet is good to excellent with flawless graphics original factory finish is still present. The only flaw is a ¼ chip in first layer of wood right on the tip. Bindings are soft and pliable. Straps are in good condition, mounting thumbscrews show signs of oxidation. This board has the super rare blue webbing strap leash that is properly mounted. The fins are straight and clean.
The Base is in good to excellent condition with the original factory finish still present and there are only smudge from storage. A dimple most likely caused from a mounting bolt that was too long. Other marks are s ingle long scratch running about 18 inches down the tail it is more noticeable because it has been filled with a black material but looks as if it can be cleaned. There is also a small sliver/chip on the edge near the “k” on the backhill writing. The tail is in good structural condition with a ¼ indentation on the right corner.
A very rare board that you may never see for sale again.
Collectors, please note, Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop has a mission statement to document and preserve snowboard history and does not engage in the selling of vintage snowboards from the Utah Snowboard Museum. Most of the boards on this site are privately owned and priced according to rarity and condition. In most cases, they are not intended to sell but to educate fellow collectors of the more rare and hard to find snowboards out there, along with potential value of such boards. Prices are set to discourage purchase, but as time catches up to value, these prices may not seem so far off in the future. If you are interested in selling a board of this caliber, please contact the curator of the Utah Snowboard Museum, Dennis Nazari. If you are in need of period correct bindings, parts, or hardware, also contact the museum for availability; or 801-273-8770
