With over 1,000 vintage boards on display at Salty Peaks Snowboard Specialty Shop we are often asked “what’s the oldest snowboard?” to answer, we ask “what do you consider a snowboard? Does it have something you hold in your hand like a rope or handle? Or is it a freehand ridden board, like a surfboard? If your answer is a freehand powder surfboard, the first was Wayne Stoveken, who in 1972 rode the first winterstick powder surfboards in the Wasatch Range” Winterstick founder Dimitrije Milovich was on that hike in the East coast surfer turned inventor started the Winterstick company right here in Salt Lake City. The first production boards were offered in a roundtail and swallowtail models. Early boards had the powder brake, that stopped a runaway board if you fell off of it while riding. The base skeg helped the board track straight in deep powder, in 1975 Demetrije was using metal edges and p-tex bases. By 1980 “sticking” was what the cool kids were doing as an underground movement had been created around the snow surf company called Winterstick.
 

This Winterstick Roundtail Snowboard is in great condition with all original parts. The original base material was produced without vacuum bumps, dimples, or imperfections. However there are many superficial scratches from use. The nose has a 1/16” impact on the tip that could easily be flattened and epoxied to original condition (we can provide this service by a certified pro restoration expert for $80.00 on top of purchase price.)

The topsheet is in good condition with the biggest detractor to value being 8 of the epoxy traction bumps/spikes being broken off. There’s also a discoloration in the topsheet due to the vacuum press process used to make these boards, which often times resulted in 2^nd quality boards. The bindings are dirty (we do not clean any of the boards unless requested)

but is in excellent condition with all original parts these webbing strap bindings were ahead of their time when first produced but were quickly made obsolete by new buckle binding straps and later highback bindings. This is also a rare colorway.
